Running Log #4, 5/14/14

Today I had an AP test that ran after school til 4, and by that time our practice was over, so I ran on my own once I was home.

It was the perfect day for running, in my opinion. About 50 out, little wind, overcast day, and drizzling. One thing I like most about that kind of weather is the temperature. I can wear a light jacket, and by the end of my run, I feel just a little toasty. Never too hot though, and never too cold. Additionally, I just get a kick out of running in the rain, I'm simple like that, I suppose.

If I had to move to another country, and I based it only on weather, I think I would choose Britain, based on my (perhaps faulty) understanding of their weather. It sounds like they have more days like we had today.

Weather and hypothetical running in other countries aside, I felt really good today. I did what was probably a little less than 3 miles, and I did a steady clip without pain.

Running Log #3, 5/7/14

Today we did 200's on the track. The objective is to run a pace that is a couple seconds faster than your average hundred, at least that's what it seems to me. The goal is for you to be able to use that pace during a race, either for the start or finish, or, if you're really a baller, use it the entire race. Generally speaking, I can't do that, but it is helpful for me to have practice running controlled yet fast paces like that, they help me to know what it feels like to come out hard but not too hard. And of course they put that final 200 meters in perspective.

Anyhow, my time to hit was 32.5-33, but I never hit that time once, and it really pissed me off, because usually I do get somewhere within 32. Today though it was three 31's and one 34. And the 100 meter splits were not even. On one I had a 14/17 split. That's not good. I suppose I can blame this inconsistency on the fact that I ran a mile in less than 5 minutes yesterday (woot).

An aside from the workout itself, I realized today that our team is going to suck a little more with our senior runner Natalee gone. Without her it'll just be a bunch of dudes. Not that the guys on our team suck, they're my bros. My only point is that we're going to be even more imbalanced than we are now, as far as guy to girl ratios go.

Another aside, the roster for our next race, the League Meet, was posted today. The race is this Saturday, and I will not be attending. It's ok with me. I understand and am not at all upset. They can only take two runners per event, and even though I'm running good times, there's just a surplus of guys on my team who are running even faster, which is awesome for our team.

My team is of the talent where the 7th guy on the CC Varsity roster is still a good runner. It's just dog eat dog level of closeness and competition on my team.

That's all I can think of, bitches.

Running Log #2, 5/6/14

Races went well today. I ran a 4:59 in the mile! The only lap that felt good was the first one, in which I ran a 70. The next three felt like I was going in slow motion, my lungs and legs burned. Despite those feelings from my body, I was still going under 5. It was a team versus team meet, and we smashed the other team in that race.

My 800 I ran a 2:18, first lap 65, second lap a 73. I didn't feel so hot, but I'm pleased that I stuck close to my only other 800 time this year, which was a 2:16.

On a note unrelated to my races, a girl named Kelly on our team had a breakthrough today, I think. She is not normally the kind of runner who tries very hard, at least not last year. This year she has been putting forth more effort. If you ask her what her best time was last year she couldn't tell you, but she can definitely tell you her best times of this year.

Anyways, today she hauled down like four chicks in the final 50 meters of her race. And she was PUMPED. Time can only tell of course, but we'll be seeing an upgraded version of this runner in the future. She's had a little taste of totally owning people, and she'll want more, probably.

Running Log #1, 5/5/14

6 mile long run today. My long run was 7 miles earlier in the season but now that the season is in full swing we haven't had the time to maintain higher numbers like that. My watch had 44:00. That was probably the coolest thing that happened to me all day. Out of all the seconds in a minute, I got the last one. Pretty cool.

I didn't think about anything during my run. If I did, it wasn't interesting enough to be remembered now, clearly. Sometimes I spend runs thinking about specific things, but today it was mostly how my legs felt a little stiff from my race Friday, and then fast quarters on the track Saturday.

Speaking of racing, I have two tomorrow. Mile and the 800 open. Not my usual events. I'm just glad the mile comes first, I want to see what I can do while I'm fresh. Though I am worried about my performance in the 800. I've only doubled up once before, and when I did it didn't go well. Hopefully that made me more prepared for this though. I don't know, we'll see.

PS
As of today my running streak is 304 days in a row.

Intro

Hey everyone (or perhaps nobody). I will be using Blogger to do a couple things. First and foremost, I will be posting running logs, which I will try to do everyday. I know I won't, so I'll date them so you can get a sense of how much time passes between logs.

Secondly, I will post about anything I want that happens to me during my day. I'm not so self-absorbed that I'll think any little old thing is important enough for your time, so trust me when I say, the things I talk about that happen to me during my day will be significant, and will most likely lead to a train of higher thought.

Third, I will probably post occasionally about my (or other) online debates, and include a link to any online debate I'm talking about. I will be pulling all the online debates from this site (http://www.debate.org/), which I highly encourage you join.

And fourth, and I admit this is a lazily-vague category, I will be talking about anything else. Movies, news, articles, anything I find interesting that hasn't fallen under the first 3 things mentioned.

I hope you enjoy!
